Prior to joining Decision Lens, Alison was the Director of Facilities Planning in K-12 education with a focus on capital planning, process improvement, and public participation. She also previously worked as an information technology professional and administrator at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL.
Outside of work, Alison enjoys traveling, reading, entertaining, and the outdoors.
Bela Barner - Senior Client ManagerChicago, IL
Bela assists clients in applying Decision Lens tools and methods to solve challenging problems through evaluating and selecting strategic investment options. He enjoys facilitating clients to work through complex problems and using Decision Lens' modeling and analytics capabilities to develop insightful ways of examining business problems.
As a former strategy consultant, Bela has developed in-depth expertise in a variety of industries, including higher education, consumer goods, and manufacturing, and during his first year with Decision Lens, he has focused on pharmaceutical and transportation clients.
Prior to joining Decision Lens, Bela worked in strategic planning for a variety of organizations seeking to manage growth and financial sustainability. He served as the lead strategy facilitator in the turnaround of a large Midwestern university, helped a growing insurer implement Economic Value Added (EVA) for technology decisions, and has advised private equity clients with market due diligence for investment planning. His early career experiences included information systems design and development.
Bela has his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business. He completed his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University.
Outside of work, Bela enjoys cycling, mountaineering, skiing, and backcountry travel. He is also the founder and president of a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing community green space in Chicago.
Brent Peaden - Senior Client ManagerDayton, OH
Brent Peaden is a Senior Client Manager in the Professional Services Team. He assists clients to solve problems through a structured methodology and applying Decision Lens software. Brent’s strong Change Management and Training background in both commercial and DoD environments allows him to facilitate a wide range of prioritization and optimization initiatives. Prior to joining Decision Lens, Brent supported IT initiative planning for Headquarters U.S. Air Force. Brent serves many clients from State Government Agencies, State DoT’s, and several DoD Air Force and Army organizations. He has helped his clients leverage Decision Lens for strategic planning, capital planning, IT prioritization, and Human Capital/Workforce Planning efforts. Brent has a B.S. in Human-Factors Engineering from Wright State University in Dayton (OH) and holds a Secret Clearance. Outside of work, Brent enjoys salt-water fishing, and swimming. He is also a certified and accomplished age group USA swim coach.
Carol Gersten - Chief Services OfficerArlington, VA
As the Chief Services Officer, Carol manages a broad range of skilled resources and is focused on driving successful outcomes in complex, challenging technology and operational enterprise environments. Carol is a seasoned executive in services delivery and business development, bringing nearly 20 years of experience in leading professional services divisions, enterprise technology programs and strategic client engagements across a variety of industries including higher education, biotechnology, logistics management and manufacturing.
Prior to joining Decision Lens, Carol was the Vice President of Hobsons Outcome Consulting Division, responsible for building and managing the Higher Education Consulting Services Division, focused on strategic outcomes, pre-sales solutions, digital marketing, partnership management and client service projects. Previously she was responsible for managing Enterprise IT projects at Medimmune, where her focus was global implementations of both an Enterprise Document Management System, and the Laboratory Information Management System covering business units across 5 global locations and targeting 2000+ active users.
Carol grew up right outside of New York City, has an undergraduate degree from the SUNY school system and an MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.
Dan Saaty - Founder & Chief ScientistArlington, VA
Dan is the Chief Scientist and co-founder of Decision Lens. He has advised numerous Fortune 500 organizations and government agencies in mission-critical decisions – from multi-billion dollar strategic planning processes to decision management methodologies for major capital investments, portfolio management decision processes, and acquisition and best-value source selections.
An expert in the implementation of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP), Mr. Saaty has over 15 years of experience in developing and implementing advanced decision methodologies.
Mr. Saaty's skill in decision process design and facilitation is widely sought after by companies and government agencies including Johnson and Johnson, Amtrak, the NFL, National Grid, Joint Chiefs of Staff, US Department of Defense, NASA, National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Military Health System among others.
The advanced decision methodologies designed and implemented by Mr. Saaty are routinely used in both the public and private sectors to prioritize mission-critical objectives, site selection, best-value source selection, enterprise risk management, human resource management, work effort prioritization, and engineering trade-off analysis decisions.
Katie Howell - Education Program ManagerArlington, VA
Katie manages all aspects of Decision Lens University’s educational programs. By coordinating DLU’s programs and serving as the chief content manager, Katie is responsible for ensuring quality and enjoyable classroom, online, and distance learning programs. She manages the vast library of educational resources and is the lead administrator of the program. Katie enjoys assisting customers with the implementation of Decision Lens and partnering with customers to master their skills in leveraging the solution on a daily basis.
Karsten Daponte - Director, Federal BusinessArlington, VA
Karsten manages client decisions primarily within the Defense sector, supporting clients in the end-to-end implementation of their decision processes. He likes facing the challenge of putting the decision ‘puzzle’ together with the client – identifying the best framework and approach to maximize their output and support their decision.
Karsten has worked in the government and defense industries for 15 years and began working at Decision Lens in January 2013. Prior to joining Decision Lens, Karsten worked at the Pentagon in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) as an analyst in the Strategy Branch, focused on strategic planning and analysis. Previously, at Booz Allen Hamilton, he supported multiple clients in the implementation of IT capital planning processes. Karsten also served in the Navy for over six years, with assignments to South America, Europe, and Afghanistan.
A native of Washington, DC, Karsten returned to the Washington area after completing his Navy service in 2003. Karsten holds a Masters of International Public Policy with a focus on Strategic Studies from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a BS in Ocean Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy. Outside of work, Karsten enjoys running, soccer and live music.
Michele Givens - Associate DirectorArlington, VA
Michele provides decision making support to executives and leaders including decision modeling, user training, and facilitation. Michele assists clients on a variety of decisions including strategic planning, portfolio prioritization, budget allocation and portfolio optimization.
Prior to joining Decision Lens, Michele worked as a Management Consultant with a major IT Strategy and Consulting firm in the Federal Sector and led her own consulting practice. Before that she was an Account Supervisor in the pharmaceutical and healthcare marketing arena. Michele has focused on helping leaders attain organizational alignment through strategic planning, change management and process improvement efforts. As a trained facilitator, certified change management practitioner and adjunct instructor, she has extensive experience training stakeholders managing organizational transformation.
Michele, a native of North Carolina, grew up in Winston-Salem. She earned a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Michele enjoys live music, particularly contemporary jazz, and photography in her free time.
Stephanie Mansfield - Senior Client ManagerArlington, VA
Stephanie Mansfield is an expert at guiding clients through implementation processes. She supports clients by providing user training, facilitation, and an overall greater understanding of the technology and decision-making process. She enjoys working with clients to determine the best approach to support decisions within their portfolio. Prior to joining Decision Lens, Stephanie held Manager and Project Manager positions at an educational software company, overseeing both the consulting and implementation processes. She has also previously held positions as a Higher Education Administrator and as a Customer Business Manager for Campbell Soup Company’s sales division. Stephanie grew up in Alabama and holds a MBA with a focus in Marketing from Loyola University New Orleans.
Shawn Moore - Senior Client ManagerSan Francisco, CA
Shawn provides decision-making support to a diverse portfolio of business and government leaders, ranging from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the U.S. Army and Air Force, to various commercial organizations and state entities. An experienced facilitator and presenter with expertise in stakeholder collaboration and executive leadership training, Shawn enjoys solving client problems through prioritizing opportunities, allocating resources, and driving positive change within their organizations.
Prior to joining Decision Lens, Shawn advised executives as a leadership development expert, providing training across a wide range of topics. These included executive leadership, employee engagement, organizational culture, and strategic global management, among others. He has developed and delivered live and online domestic and international training courses to top management in multiple countries.
Shawn holds a Master in International Affairs and Global Enterprise from the University of Utah, and a BA in International Relations from Brigham Young University. Shawn enjoys traveling with his wife, leading youth on international humanitarian expeditions and is an avid sports enthusiast.
